I received this release from my REZ-colleague Lars because he’s not into grindcore and he received it from the Dutch distributor of Selfmadegod Records. I must admit that I’m not the greatest connaisseur of grindcore myself but the occasional CD I certainly can appreciate and “Rediscovering The Dead” is perfect for me. Twenty-nine tracks in twenty-seven minutes, dual high and low pitched vocals and aggressive old-school grindcore. If I had to describe grindcore to an unknowing friend, I would let him listen to this.
The tracks on “Rediscovering The Dead” are taken from all split-EP’s they’ve done so far (with Squash Bowels, Embalming Theatre, Ulcerrhoea, Mind Collage and Man In Shackles) and three are from the Polar Grinder compilation LP. | |
The recordings took place on various occasions in 2000 and 2001 but the overall sound of the EP-tracks is fairly the same for most tracks so I think there were only a few sessions to produce material for several EP’s. The production is sharp and a little bit rough on the edges but very acceptable.
If you like (old) Napalm Death and Nasum you also will like Sewn Shut and this release is a nice way to get to know them. As various other releases are coming up, including a full-length CD and split-EP’s with Nashgul and Needful Things I’m interested in hearing them also.
