Blue Rat is a band from London formed in late 2003, when Scruffy Paul (vocals), Pug and Al (guitars), Dik (bass) and Murgy (drums) came together to play music they liked. And they liked… Well, if you listen attentively to their demo, you can hear in their influences some innuendos of Motorhead, Sex Pistols and even Leatherface.
There are three short songs on this demo. Unfortunately, in the case of Blue Rat three songs are enough to come to conclusion not to listen, but not enough to decide to listen. I mean the problem here is in the inexcusable short timing of the songs. Except for that, the recording is rather good. | |
Here we have songs of simple, intelligible style and construction; not too bad guitars in fat, juicy riffs; typical punk-metal vocals and a bass, which reminds in phrasing of the latest Voivod effort. Actually, the first song “Everything Will Give You Cancer” contains some obvious traces of the song “Gasmask Revival” from Voivod. Same enthusiasm! And though it’s hard to get a clear picture of this cd, I guess in spite of some lack of authenticity, by the third or forth time of listening The Scream Sessions will unexpectedly charm you with that well-known musical ‘Englishness’, which, let’s admit it, means quality.
