In the line of Magna Carta tribute albums, 2005 starts of with a tribute to Rush. Being a big progressive rock fan, it’s rather strange that this Canadian band never caught on with me. I have some of their albums on vinyl but hardly ever took the time to listen to these albums. The last time I played one might be over ten years ago. Reading the liner notes of this tribute, all musicians wrote about their first experience with Rush, revived my interest in the band. The music on the album did the rest. The compilation features eleven tracks covering most of the career of Rush. | |
The fact that I’m not very familiar with the original versions of these songs probably made it easier to enjoy these tributes because of the lack of reference. Since most of you are probably familiar with the compositions I will only add that the album features some famous names among whom Stu Hamm, Andreas Kisser, Mike Mangini and Kip Winger. High quality musicians playing high quality music, Subdivisions is a tribute that has every right of existing. I think I’ll be checking out the Rush back catalogue in the very near future. (Geert) |
