The first thing to pop in mind when listening to Steve Thorne was REM. The tone in the man’s voice combined with the melodic approach made me think of Michael Stipe. There is something in the music that reminds of REM as well. Take for example the songs “Therapy” and “Thumbleweeds”, there’s a sort of simplicity in these songs that give them a poppy feel but without sounding commercial, a little bit in the vain of the aforementioned band. Emotional Creatures: Part One, is the debut album of English Thorne, whom you might know as supporting act of the Jadis European tour. Thorn is a multi instrumentalist who likes to keep things in his own control, resulting in a very good balanced debut.

As with every soloist in the present day rock scene, Thorne gathered some well known musicians to help promote his album, Tony – I will play on any album – Levin, Nick D’Virgilio and Geoff Downes among others. The eleven songs on the album are a combination of beautiful acoustic orientated and easy listening songs and more rhythmic and up tempo sing-a-long tracks with an occasional rock explosion. There’s fragility in most of the songs I personally like, but I can also imagine it being too soft for our average reader.
