Insert a cd and …
You open the window; and immediately stuffy air of hopelessness and smouldering decay suffocates you. A broken voice sings a song of despair, guilt, slavery, expectations that never lead to the liberation, oppression, exploitation… Enough! You try to hide away, but the wind doesn’t let you close the window: double guitars with the oily, ominous riffs put you back into the ocean of grief, the expiration of the human race and oblivion … Don’t close your eyes; you’ll hear it in the groans of dirty streets; you’ll feel it inside with relentless pumps of a far cannonade. The bass guitar bears an accusatory verdict to you. You, too, belong to this world of unfeeling apathy and deception, smiling faces and hidden deep animosity. And if you try to run from reality, you’ll find a quiet place with some songs about flowers… and a million walls instead of bridges… There’s no choice! You must face the heat. What does not kill a man makes him stronger! And if you can stand the tale of a convicting slave, Neaera will take you under a spell of her sorrowful guitars, galloping rhythm (one of the best rhythm sections!) and power metal melodies in thrash arranges. | |
And you will follow her, especially when everything here is worth it: brilliant, special technique of the lead guitarist (though the guy tends to reach the line between the unique technique and beloved cliché). 12 over-temped tracks plus the “Last Silence” – acoustic thoughts with a lot of strings. It’s not typical death – no growling vocals, other themes, etc; and not typical thrash – you will not find standard solo time here. Smart, laconic and mindblowing. For this young band from Germany formed in 2003 it’s a fantastic result, which couldn’t be reached without talent. Some people are born with a gift of melody. And quickly, in 2004 this talent was noticed by Metal Blade. It’s luck! Alone with the choice of the producer Andy Classen (luck for our ears, folks!). This talent and some luck are the essential elements of success. Yes, Neaera has a big future! And they deserve it! Do you want proof – check out “The Rising Tide Of Oblivion”! And let me give them nine out of ten…since ten belongs only to Gods… (Julie) |
