The nice thing about receiving promos is that you sometimes receive albums from bands that you only know by name. Well, that was the fact with ‘Harnessing Ruin’ from Immolation. I’ve heard of the band but never listened to their music. So I had totally NO idea what to expect from this band. Sure, I know Immolation is one of the most underrated bands in the extreme genre and I know that they exist for quite a while now. I just never got the chance to listen to their music; until today!

The first thing I noticed is that the sound and the vibe on the album remind me somewhat of Morbid Angel.

Don’t blame me for that, I’m just not that much into death metal. But the dissonant guitars and the ‘understandable’ grunts of Ross Dolan just give that kind of feeling.

Anyway, ‘Harnessing Ruin’ has become a brutal death metal album with some doom influences, meaning that this album contains some slow and atmospheric passages. But beware; this album needs time to get a grip on you. It gets better every time you listen to it!
