After the first couple of songs I’d figured writing a review of this debut album was an easy thing. I couldn’t think of a reviewer that would not have come up with the obvious The Gathering reference. Not only the atmospheric song writing, but especially the vocals of the eighteen years old Laura Breebaart are a constant reminder of The Gathering anno 2005. The biggest difference is the lack of catchy rhythms and explicit melodies. With the fourth track, “Pheromone” the solo artist Richard Lindenberg proves to have more up his sleeve, showing a heavier side combining original vocals with kicking guitars.

The only real negative point on Requiem is the fact that Richard is a guitarist from origin. He had to learn to play drums and piano. This results in unbalance. The high skilled level of guitar play doesn’t always fit in with the more basics: drum and piano. Besides that, Requiem is a debut that will impress fans of trip rock in the genre of The Gathering. I can only advise Lindenberg and Breebaart to try and find some additional band members to create a little bit better balanced sound.
