Nightfall is back! Since their comeback record I Am Jesus in 2003, these metal heads from Greece have released a new album. Because of the title alone you won’t forget this album: Lyssa: Rural Gods & Astonishing Punishments. Luckily this album doesn’t need its title to be remembered.

The music is often described as dark metal with some gothic influences. I guess some people mean the gothic kind of influences Paradise Lost used to have, because I can’t find any modern gothic influences. For those of you, who start shaking in disgust when reading or hearing the word gothic, relax! This album never gets anywhere near the kind of modern gothic sound.

‘Lyssa…’ is a 40 minute dark metal fest where brutal and atmospheric parts are brilliantly combined. I like the production of this album. It is right, it is correct, damn how do I explain the feeling I have with this production. It suits the music perfectly. And the drumming; man, I knew George Kollias is a good drummer (why else are you asked to drum in Nile?), but I’m a huge fan of the drum work on ‘Lyssa…’
