Despite the fact that I do not qualify Starship as a high level release, I must admit that I feel quite some appreciation of some of the songs on the album. This is strange because my attention usually fades quickly when musical references keep popping up in my head. It’s probably because the tracks I particularly like all have a very catchy hook. Take for example the track “Love Protection”. This track with its spherical electronics is like listening to a ten year old Shakespears Sister album but.. | |
. it has a certain edge to it that gives the song hit potential. One of the other tracks I admire is “I Can See The Sun”, again, it’s like listening to a ten year old Björk album, but the historical vocals save this track from the grey masses. With the proper video clip I wouldn’t be surprised if this one got a few spins on MTV. Too bad that not all of the songs are of the same quality. After a while the synthesizer pop with the electronic beats leaves me skipping back to the aforementioned tracks. (Geert) |
