Reviver is a metal band from the Netherlands formed in 1997. It took eight years till they released their first full length. Why did it take so long?
The first years Reviver concentrated on finding the right band members and developing their typical style of heavy metal. Till now they have recorded some demo recordings. After some changes in the line-up they now have some good musicians in the band.
The music Reviver plays is typical old school metal. The music is in the line of Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Hammerfall and more of that stuff; fast played songs with nice and well played guitar solos.
The self titled debut starts great with “Osiris Eyes”. Fast song with nice riffs. Some songs don’t have any nice calm parts and are full of tempo changes. | |
The last songs (“Beyond The Infinite”) starts a bit strange and when I heard it for the first time I thought one of my roommates had turned on another album. It starts with a piano intro and changes into a long guitar solo (except in the middle there’s some more piano). I don’t think this song has any surplus value.
The vocalist, Patrick van Maurik, gets the best out of his voice and sometimes I think I even hear the voice of Tim Owens. This singer has a great future.
Unfortunately the cover of this album is a bit ugly. But there’s only one thing important and that’s the music and that is great. Devil hands in the air and bang your head. (Jeroen) |
