No... Hell fucking no, I will not sacrifice a good CD-cover to put this in. Spiders And Snakes. The band name says it all: ‘We play uninspired junk’. This junk they play is called glam rock. You know, way back in the 70’s and 80’s when rock music was all about image and how to look as stupid (then considered ‘groovy’ or ‘way out’) as possible and play sappy lovesongs and do buckets of drugs to be cool and fit in. Right, and now we will proceed with the arguments to prove to you all Spiders And Snakes’ Hollywood Ghosts is as big a piece of crap as I promised it would be.
Let us take a look at the track titles first. I’ll pick a couple of them. ‘Bill’s Cigar’, ‘Waiting for me in L.A.’, ‘American Baby’, ‘Get Outta Here’ and ‘The Girl Can’t Help It’. Of those five, of course, the latter is the pinnacle of stupidity. | |
And, you will not be disappointed.
Okay, in this part I will try to say something positive about ‘Hollywood Ghosts’. Here goes: you can play the album (at low volume) in the background while doing something else, and not be annoyed by it. So, if a chain of grocery stores is looking for a new CD to add to their collection of mindless sadness, this would be a decent choice.
One other thing: the extra DVD shows that somewhere in the past these guys were able to make a couple of allright songs and they know how to entertain a crowd. Well, that’s very nice, but it’s about the new album, and that is just really bad. It shows no inspiration, no energy, no clue, no nothing. Don’t quit your day job, or if this is your day job: do and think of a new one.
