Sometimes there are some moments where you have to ask yourself some existential questions. Where are you now? What do you want now? Who are you?
The same it was with Dreadlock Pussy. After being labeled as best Dutch ‘nu-metal act’ and gigs at big festivals they decided to stop and stare. Stare and turn around. Turn around and walk in an other direction where you don’t know where it’s going to lead to.
They released ‘Tsumi’, an album that surprised fans as well as enemies of the band. So they are able to do this! With harmonic vocals and better arranged songs they made one of the best records of a dutch act that year.
After that. Silence. An EP was released, with some surprisingly good remixes of songs and after that. Silence. Drummer Twixy left the band and got replaced by Jos. They worked in their own studio for a while and after some a’s and b’s this album is the result of it. | |
It’s hard to label Dreadlock Pussy as a Nu-Metalband. The name, nicknames etc. reminds you of 2000/2001 when Nu-metal was at its peak. But aside from the names, the music is different.
Like ‘Positions Of Power’, the opening song which has a cool chorus in it, with different voices, Pat uses his voice in many ways in this song.
Or take ‘Choirboys’ which has a swinging feel over it. New Clip ‘Pick Up’, which is pretty laid back. And go on..
They use different influences now. Not only standard riffs, but more grungy riffs and grungy vocals. There Is some rap on this CD, but it is minimized. Maybe that’s a thing young kids like to hear in the music of DP, and maybe they lose a lot of fans with this cd, but I’m sure they also gain a lot of new ones.
