The first thought I had when I received ‘Hammer Down’ from Philadelphia-based Omegalord was: THE TRANSFORMERS. Omegalord, it sounds like one of The Transformers to me. But the band and its music have nothing to do with The Transformers. Well, except for the fact that they both hold a big dose of metal.

Omegalord combine the metal with a filthy dose of rock and roll, which sometimes reminds me of a mixture of Motörhead and Six Feet Under.

The only difference is that vocalist The Reverend actually sings (in a Lemmy kind of way that is) and doesn’t use a death grunt.

Having made the comparison with Motörhead and SFU is immediately the weak point of this album; it’s not original enough. Quite often I wonder where I heard the music before. Which is a shame actually; because I think the guys from Omegalord can do better.
