The Perfect Moment is the debut album of LOSA. This band is originally from Nacogdoches, TX, but moved to the Dallas/Fort Worth area in the summer of 2002 to gain more exposure through the well established local music scene. In 2003 they released a four song live demo. After putting this album in my CD-player I thought this was just another metalcore band but there’s something different with some of the songs. “Prelude” (the intro) is not very special, and I don’t understand why bands want to have an intro that has nothing really to add. “The Beginning” is the second song on The Perfect Moment. It starts, as mentioned before, as a normal metalcore song but the difference is the length of the song; it is 7 minutes and 42 seconds!! That’s too long in my opinion. After 4 minutes a song loses its appeal.

They try to get the attention back with some very slowly played part, while vocalist Micheal Hall really tries to sing, but unfortunately he is better of screaming. His screaming voice is great. When he starts to sing, the music and vocals are a bit like Tool. Tool also features a lot of such parts. The rest of the songs (except the last and the one before the last) are shorter than four minutes. The music is influenced by bands as Mastodon, Converge, Cave In and there are the aforementioned Tool passages. There are no pauses between the songs, which makes this album very long and difficult to listen to. After listening the whole album I was very tired. The music is well played, but the songs do miss something and I can’t really say what it is.
