In comparison to Leslie West’s cover album “Got Blooze” the first thing I noticed about Jake E. Lee’s latest cover album is the diversity of the selected songs. Where the West release starts to get more boring with every spin, “Retraced” stays interesting, there are just too many things happening in the songs. A negative aspect of variation is the fact that some of the songs turned out better than others.

As with most Mascot Records releases the sound on the album is flawless. The musicians, among whom Tim Bogert and Aynsley Dunbar (these names sound familiar) make up for any quality standards and the result will please most of the blues (rock) fans. “Retraced” is one of the better cover albums released this year.
