After tributes to Bach and Mozart, the final chapter of Alex Masi’s “In The Name Of” serie is dedicated to Beethoven. Italian guitarist Masi transcribed six compositions into guitar solo pieces. Masi mainly plays his Manne Semiacustica Guitar but on the third track (“Romance For Violin No. 2”) he also uses his Manne Taos Electric Guitar. Besides the electric approach the track also features a contribution of the Karlsbad String Academy.

The thing I like most about this release is the production, which gives you the feeling you’re attending an intimate solo performance in an excellent concert hall. It’s hard to imagine that the entire album was recorded in a home studio. “In The Name Of Beethoven” comes highly recommended to all (acoustic) guitar fans with an interest in classical music. It doesn’t get any better than this!
