“When Silence Calls” is a re-release of the 2003 debut album of UK prog metal band Humanity, which was originally released by Killin Time Records. I expected that the band had found a new label (Carbon13), willing to bring our attention to this two year old release just before the recording of the follow up album started, but the facts are slightly different. It seems that just after Carbon13 re-released “When Silence Calls” the band decided to leave their new found label. Humanity have the honor of having been signed to more labels than they have released albums. Quite an achievement, especially considering the average age of these talented musicians!
The music on the disc is high quality progressive metal in the vein of Dream Theater, although slightly more melodic and Evergrey, although slightly more atmospheric. | |
The songs are cleverly structured, without getting bogged down into needless complexity. One of the greatest forces in the band are the warm yet very powerful vocals of Simon Shedwell, which makes you wish every progressive metal band was blessed with such talent. All in all an excellent and much promising debut. This re-release will definitely create interest in the soon to be released follow up. Humanity, remember the name. (Geert) |
