Nice in time with the Relapse Czech Assault release, another album from that eastern Europe state fell on my doormat. Calling themselves Godless Truth since 1994, they have one album in their backcatalogue and a completely renewed line-up. What you can expect from Godless Truth is very brutal deathmetal with some grind overtones, reminding me of bands such as Broken Hope and Suffocation.
Musically, Godless Truth is past the stage of demo-taping, and selfRealization clearly shows that off. The songs are well-structured and catchy, and they offer a very important aspect that especially Broken Hope always failed to deliver: dynamics. In all its brutality, these guys kept a good eye out for changing rhythms and speed to make the songs a bit more breathable. | |
Another strongpoint are the dual-vocal approach, but with that we`ve also pinpointed a weak point. The vocalist has a very unique voice and it`s not the most accessible I`ve ever heard. If it`s not your game you might be annoyed by it, regardless of the rest of the music.
All that said, I can only say that Godless Truth is a very promising band that has achieved a great deal with this album; the packaging is superb, the songs are superb, now all they need is a professional producer and we might see these guys touring Europe with bigger bands soon!
