“Crown Of Souls” is already the sixth instalment in the Deeds Of Flesh story (not counting the mini-cd). Formed in 1994 the brutal death metal from these guys is gradually becoming more popular every year.
Being also the owners of the Unique Leader label they undoubtedly feel the hot breath of bands like Decrepit Birth and Gorgasm in their neck, forcing them to do their stinking best to keep ahead of the competition
The production, done by the band, is very compact, even slightly better than on the former album. The drum sound is something you will love or hate; the triggers are very present which results in an almost mechanical sound, which I personally tend to like
”Crown Of Souls” has a very military feel to it. If I have to make an analogy, they would not be a diving jetfighter in for the kill or the unstoppable Abrams tank but a whole battalion of marching infantry. | |
They sound so controlled, so compact that it brings a vision of marching army boots to my mind.
I already liked the predecessor “Reduced To Ashes” and I certainly like this one because this is essentially a continuation of that record. Some may find that unoriginal or a sign of stagnation but I for one think that they have found their style and are doing what they are good at: playing crushing death metal.
With a video recorded for the title track which will be aired on MTV, an upcoming live DVD and a strong new album under their belt the future certainly looks bright for Deeds Of Flesh. (Roy) |
