Estonia is the most northern and least populated country of the Baltic States (Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania). I know that Tallinn is the capital and I know that Flora Tallinn is the biggest sports club in Estonia. Well ladies and gentlemen, from now on Estonia is also know for metal! Human Ground is from Estonia (duh!) and they play the kind of metal that is pretty hard to categorize. The basis is definitely death metal, but Human Ground adds a touch of melody.

Human Ground was totally unknown to me, but after their self-titled debut that changed of course. This is a kick ass debut! It consists of 12 high quality melodic death metal tunes, which remind of Death (R.

I.P.) sometimes. What struck me the most is the fact that the lead singer is a girl (Pille). I swear that you hardly notice it. Man, those are some aggressive vocals; they fit the music perfectly. In some of the choruses band leader Valm uses some clean vocals which sounds cool in combination with the grunts of Pille.

The last song on ‘Human Ground’ is totally different from the rest of the songs. It’s called “Love Song” and, hold your horses, it has some pretty sick lyrics and both Pille and Valm sing with clean vocals. Yeah, it’s a pretty cool ending to this already cool debut.
