After a couple of compilation contributions Zatopeks finally see their debut album ‘Ain’t Nobody Left But Us’ released by Dutch label Stardumb Records. At first I figured that these guys were Dutch, but it seemed that I mistook the weak vocals for no native English. To be honest the vocals aren’t that bad, for a punk pop band that is. What I like about this release is the fact that all fourteen songs have individual class. It’s not like your average punk rock album where you can get a pretty good impression of the songs by listening to the first two tracks. | |
Every single one of the tracks on ‘Ain’t Nobody Left But Us’ has a certain twist, in most cases quite original even. Some tracks excel because of the occasional use of acoustic guitars, the Californian atmosphere of “This Night Spider Earned His Colours”, the catchy refrains in “The Boy Done Good” or the country orientated balled “Jenny Kissed Me”. This is no single speed punk album and will perfectly suit the more developed punk rocker. ‘Ain’t Nobody Left But Us’ is a most promising debut with hardly a weak song on it. (Geert) |
