It’s not often that a compilation album gets appreciated. Magna Carta’s Prime Cuts series proved not to be entirely successful (as you can read in my review of the Mike Portnoy edition) but this Steve Morse edition is pretty good. In comparison this compilation is more diverse, making this cd value for money. The diversity even makes it easier to listen throughout the entire album, where the standard instrumental release tends to get slightly boring half way through.

The album features songs from ‘Major Impacts 2`, the Yes tribute cd ‘Tales From Yesterday’ and the Steve Morse Band album ‘Split’ among others. The best thing of master guitarists is the fact that they find no trouble in gathering some of the best musicians in the world to record. This Prime Cuts release features additions by Terry Bozzio, Mike Portnoy and Dave LaRue, a quality guarantee.
