After four studio releases, Carl Verheyen and Provogue Records decided it was time to release a live album spanning the entire Carl Verheyen catalogue. The album was recorded on January 28th in Los Angeles. That particular night Verheyen played with Cliff Hugo on bass, Bernie Dresel on drums and Jim Cox on B3 organ as a special guest. The sound is surprisingly good, only the bass and the vocals sound slightly dim. Listening to this album makes me wonder why I don’t attend more blues rock concerts. | |
The atmosphere that the album boasts probably doesn’t compare to the real thing, I’d only expected to hear more roars from the crowd. At times the cheers almost seem to be added in the mix. Live in LA is a nice addition to every blues and jazz rock fan’s collection. You should however consider whether you’re going to settle for the album or if you want to spend a little more money to buy the ‘Live In LA’ DVD. (Geert) |
