The big question with the release of Magica’s second album “Lightseeker” would be whether the band improved the weak points on the 2002 debut “The Scroll Of Stone”. I must say that they did. The first thing that becomes obvious is the fact that the production of the new album is much better than its predecessor. That doesn’t mean that the production is of top notch quality though, there’s still plenty room to improve, but this time it’s good enough to enjoy the music. The importance of the production proves itself because on this release you can actually hear that these Romanians are talented. | |
Just listen to the great guitar riffs and the unparalleled keyboards by ‘6finger’. The songs on the album are still in the vein of the role models Rhapsody, Nightwish and Stratovarius, but the orchestral elements, some Romanian lyrics and the use of unusual tones show that Magica is also trying to develop a distinctive sound. Magica has improved but not enough to convince completely. This band still has some work to do, but they’re on the right path. (Geert) |
