If you are thinking of entering this New Year with a big bang, “Hate Breeds Suffering” might be something for you. And this death grind masterpiece belongs to Lock Up. The project band of no one less than Jesse Pintado, Shane Embury (Napalm Death), Nicolas Barker (Dimmu Borgir) and Tomas Lindberg (ex At the Gates). Previous vocalist Peter Tagtgren decided to leave the band due to his busy schedule as producer and active member in both Pain and Hypocrisy. In 1999 Lock Up released their debut “Pleasure Pave Sewers” full of the same no bullshit old school death grind. And on this new “Hate Breeds Suffering” the same story continues. The amazing blast and grind parts are combined with some crust core riffs and also some very Napalm Death sounding guitar parts. | |
But also bands as Slayer and Massacre (in some way) also seems to have influenced (“Broken World”) this project. Tomas sounds more raw (= less high) than when he played with At the Gates which gives Lock Ups music what it needs. The many rhythm changes give this release enough variation. And besides that 16 songs and a total length around half an our means no bullshit but only precise bombardments on our ears. Probably again recorded in two or three days to keep the spontaneity. And that needs respect and great musical abilities.
