Almost four years after Mercenary’s debut, “First Breath”, saw the light of life it now is time for the second release of this Danish metal act. The kind of metal Mercenary plays is best described as a combination between Guardenian (due to the Scandinavian touch of their music and Nevermore (the fat guitar riffs, the production but especially the vocals “Dead.com”). But also the structure of the songs, with the many guitar solo’s, made me think of Nevermore more then once. | |
Fact is that this has become a fine metal release with great songs as “Everblack”, “Bloodrush” and “Seize of Might”. The death grunt of the second vocalist gives this release a more dark character and gives Mercenary’s music some extra variation together with the acoustic guitars and the tension curbs that Mercenary uses. The keyboards gave “Everblack” a more symphonic touch and the great and certainly fat production makes “Everblack” a release to watch out for. (Teun) |
