Some bands send out excellent looking albums to cover up for their lacking musical capabilities. Others send out crappy looking promos, not giving a shit about the beautiful looking collection in the reviewer’s cd rack, aware that they will be judged on their music. The Apers definitely belong to the second category. The promo is a plain CD-R in a poor quality black and white copy of the original album cover. “Skies Are Turning Blue” is the third - and of course best yet - album by these Dutch punk rockers. In comparison to the previous albums I get the feeling that The Apers are more aware of the commercial possibilities. Punk rock is booming in the Netherlands, resulting in success for some of our finest bands, Di-Rect and The Sheer to name a few; and The Apers break into this market with more accessible rock.

The power and persuasion and the feel good atmosphere created by the band will surely appeal to a lot of people. I think however that live promotion of this album is vital for its success. This album breathes the essential live punk rock atmosphere. Highlights are the mad “Annabel” with punk power choruses and the catchy single “Hey Girl”; both written by guitarist Jerry Hormone who made his first writing contribution for The Apers.
