This CD released by Nailboard Records has some intrigue inside. First, it’s the second album of the popular Estonian band. Secondly, they wrote the music for the movie “Little Nicky” by New Line Cinema, where Ozzy once again bit the head of a bat off. Thirdly, East Trading Wang has won a Grand Prix at the International GarageBand.com competition in 2000. And also one little thing - their debut album “Employees Of The Year” 2004 received positive reactions from critics and fans alike. Something promising for those tired of the endless Scandinavian clones in metal.
As for the style the band plays, I’ll compare it with System Of A Down. Maybe ETW’s music is not so complex in the arrangements, but it definitely has the same charm of the eastern music mentality. Something imperceptible, but real. | |
Heavy, but melodic, the rhythmic structure of the songs are simple and catchy, the creative composing, the melodic lines are held by vocals too - nothing superfluous. You put the CD into the player and start headbanging with the wonderful riff of the opener “No Way”. All in all, if you are a fan of good riffs, this CD is for you. The only minus of the album is that you’ll never know what the title means without knowing Estonian, I guess…
And in the end there is the last intrigue from ETW – the closer “Dark Side” has such a strange intro, you can almost start believing that the guys suddenly decided to change their style into the psychodelic rock.
Verdict: fresh, interesting and promising band and a worthwhile album.
