Symphorce deliver their third full length album on the Metal Blade Records label and the band has taken yet another leap forwards. The excellent riffing and great vocals that always have been the trademark of Symphorce have taken a new direction with added diversity as well as catchiness to hook even the most critical listener.

While critics and listeners alike would like to compare the band to Brainstorm for obvious reasons, Symphorce distance themselves further and further with each release. “Godspeed” is a modern piece of power metal with its own identity. The production is heavy and clean but never sounds clinical, in fact it sounds warmer and more emotional than ever before.

Speaking of emotional, listen to the absolutely outstanding “Nowhere”. While I’m already fairly certain that critics will call the song commercial and a step in the wrong direction I for one disagree.

“Nowhere” is the perfect example that Symphorce know what they are doing, and are not too afraid to show their softer – more emotional – side to keep things interesting and refreshing.

If you ask me these Germans are headed for greatness in the power metal scene because the band simply has got it all and with each release Symphorce have managed to convince me, always pushing the boundaries and exploring the unknown, defining their own sound without being too afraid to experiment. Truly, Symphorce are the European answer to Nevermore. Whether “Godspeed” will show the light to the unbelievers out there remains to be seen but I, for one, am under its spell.
