Stench Of Death is new to me, though they exist for a couple of years now. The band originated from the Dutch band Mergelgraaf, but after a musical impasse Mergelgraaf was laid to rest. From the ashes of that band Stench Of Death was founded. The music Stench Of Death plays, can be categorized as death metal with some melodic and atmospheric elements. The information flyer that comes with the promo states the band uses synthesizers, which forced me to be a bit skeptic at first. But after listening to ‘Retrospect’ a couple of times I realized the keyboards have no leading role in the music. They only serve the music in a classy kind of way.

For a debut album ‘Retrospect’ has a great production.

The sound as a whole is cool, you know, it makes you want to bang your head. The grunts of vocalist Niels are very brutal, yet they fit the music perfectly. Lyrically, we have something out of the ordinary here. The lyrics of Stench Of Death don’t deal with the usual digging up dead people and carving up rotting corpses. No sir, the lyrics deal with the founding process of the Third Reich. But, before you go ranting about them being Nazi’s or whatever, Stench Of Death CLEARLY states that they absolutely do not sympathize with the Nazi’s ideologies.
Now, if these guys can only get a record deal, I see a good future for them!
