“Fire At Will” the new album by The Bloody Hollies, is no album to review at eight in the morning. But since I’ve got more cd’s to review today, one has got to be the first. On the positive side of an early review: this music certainly won’t cause you to doze off, and could keep you awake for days and days. I simply can’t imagine falling asleep with this garage punk music, it’s loud, brash, energetic and pure Rock ‘n Roll. The album features eleven songs, but doesn’t reach the thirty minute mark, which isn’t very surprising.
I know that the somewhat flat and thin sound is characteristic for the genre, but I for one will probably never get used to it. | |
So if you’d ask me if I like this album I’d probably tell you that I don’t. If you’d ask me what I think of this album I’d tell you that I think that it fits in with the top section of the genre with more than one highlight. The excellent “Swing” for example has very cool guitar riffs - Quentin Tarantino cool that is - and some odd notes/sounds. The same goes for “Yeah Yeah” a title that doesn’t leave much room for imagination: high speed rock ‘n roll with raw vocals and driving guitars. The more laid back songs like “I Need Love” are too much seventies and if fact rather weak. The qualities of The Bloody Hollies obvious lie in the rougher stuff.
