Soulfly is the band from Max Cavalera, there’s written enough already about his band and his former band Sepultura, so let’s get started and begin with their newest album: “Dark Ages”.
Looking at the cover this could be a Death Metal album, back to the old days. First song titled “The Dark Ages” blasts in my ears as a coming classic and second song (“Babylon”) also let us hear that Max is very angry at a lot of things (in more languages then just English)

This album has less percussion and other Latin American influences but has still the Soulfly sound he created with the first album. When the Latin influence is there it fits better in the music.

Soulfly has really grown with their new release. They won a lot of old fans back and can make a lot of new fans with this one.

Last song (“Soulfly V”) is an acoustic song which sounds really cool. The song doesn’t fit with the rest of the album but the Spanish guitar and knowing that this is a Soulfly album makes it better. The song lasts about ten minutes and when I closed my eyes I saw myself at the Spanish Riviera with some wine and some nice Spanish women (in the romantic way).
Soulfly is back with this release, hopefully Max and friend can keep it that way this time!
