Whenever I receive an album by some of the major players in the music scene, my expectations rise. “Organik” is an album written and recorded by the famous threesome Billy Sheehan, John Novello and Dennis Chambers and definitely falls into this category. The sound of the twelve instrumental seventies prog tracks is mainly determined by the classic Hammond B3 played by Novello. Generally I’m a big fan of seventies progressive rock and I love the Hammond in a leading role but I must say that the larger part of this tribute to the old days is not my cup of tea. The music just freaks me out too much. There are to many notes played in almost every single second.

The craftsmanship is something I do appreciate, but since enjoying listening to an album is one of my main criteria judging an album, I can’t give a very high rating to this effort. Too bad since there are obviously some excellent compositions and some very likable sections of music on the album. The track “Supreme Grande” is an excellent song with great rhythms and a good flow. The bass line of “Magnetic Mood” is deep jet cool with some laid back organs but this song evolves in yet another mess of notes. Hammond freaks and instrumentalists will definitely dig the sounds of “Organik”.
