The album is dedicated to Dimebag Darrel. Gloomy faces at the cover. Thoughtful and calm self-estimation looks through the cover design, photos, texts and melodies. The self-estimation of a Rockstar! And, inspirited, Chad Kroeger sings “I wanna be big rockstar!” But if you want to feel what a real life of rock ’n’ roll means, you better try those (old as the Earth) Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple or even Gun n’ Roses and Mötley Crüe, at least new Velvet Revolver. They never tried to BE rock stars; they ARE/WERE rock stars. They express their inner feeling and state of being and don’t look at what is going on around. And all the boozy things were/are just the reality for them. But here the sad thing is that the guys from Nickelback TRY to be, they are the rock star wannabes. | |
Meanwhile the album is pretty good. Everything on this CD looks like it should be. Nothing missed. A little bit too professional, but not natural, a little bit too beautiful, but heartless. Too verified, too smoothed. A wonderful work for a mixer, for the label, or for the handicraftsman, but not for the poet, rebel, rock musician. It would be absolutely brilliant album, if they didn’t try to be what they will never be. Where the imitation comes in, the inspiration goes out. They look better at their own places. But you know, something is going on in Nickelland. This CD is more sensitive and sincere and less pretentious than “The Long Road” and if you like Nickelback, you will feel it from the first accord.
