A grown man in corset and long dress looking like he’s horny enough to rape a cow… that doesn’t really make me happy. Adding the band name to that, the music easily fits in the category ‘gothic’. Since I happen to have a very black-and-white view about the newer gothic genre this first impression to me was a real bad one.

After cracking this horrible shell something shiny was inside after all! Judging a bands image does not always represent the music it makes, it appears. The mirage disappeared into nothingness with the introduction of the first song (still leaving some bad taste though). Luna Field actually plays technical death metal in the vein of Zyklon or Bloodbath, amongst others. The grunts are varied by screams, adding a somewhat blackish touch to the music.

The album has a great clean production and the instruments are well played; unwavering and powerful drumming and several good riffs. Country saloon music, sci-fi elements and dramatic film sounds (in my imagination) that can be heard in several songs give the music a progressive touch.

The German Luna Field exists since 1998 though the band produced only two full-length albums until now. In addition to ‘Diva’, ‘Close to Prime’ was released in 2003. Before that, the main occupancy of the band was lots of live performances. The current band line up is: B. Rakidzija (vocals), M. Sirac (guitars), H. Krahl (guitars), A. Palma (bass) and T. Janiszewski (drums). In all of its years in existence, only the drummer was replaced once.
