A band like Machine Head needs no introduction. They’ve been around for a while and have experienced both the positive and the negative sides of the music business. Their debut album ‘Burn My Eyes’ was an instant classic, but after the failure (or so to speak) of ‘Supercharger’ the career of Machine Head went downhill. It took almost two years to get the band back on the track and in that period ‘Through The Ashes Of Empires’ was written and released. That album had almost the same impact as ‘Burn My Eyes’.
But now it’s finally time for their live-DVD ‘Elegies’. ‘Elegies’ is not a standard live-DVD. Sure, it has a complete 90+ minute live show, but it offers a lot more. There are a series of very interesting interviews with the members of the band where they talk about the difficult times Machine Head went through. | |
Then there is the obligatory ‘behind-the-scenes’ footage, which is pretty cool. But when you’ve seen them once (it doesn’t matter which band), you’ve seen them all. A cool extra is the making of the ‘Imperium’ video and two other videos (‘Imperium’ and ‘Days Turn Blue To Gray’).
The live show is awesome and Machine Head prove that they are a great live-band. The choice of songs is great and a lot of classic Machine Head songs are played (‘Old’, ‘Davidian’, ‘Ten Ton Hammer’ and ‘Take My Scars’).
‘Elegies’ is a great DVD for the Machine Head fan, but it is also a really nice document for the average metal loving person!
