After “Drift of Empathy” and “Graceful…yet Forbidden” the new “Flesh_Power_Dominion” is the third release of the Dutch Callenish Circle which originally was found back in 1992. After troubles with their previous record company Callenish Circle searched for a new record deal and found a new home by the famous Metal Blade label. The music on this release is best described as a combination between Swedish thrash from bands as At the Gates (later ones) and the Haunted combined with some elements from the heavy (“Take me Along”) and even some black metal. Callenish Circle likes their songs to be played up tempo but so now and than the band also left some space for more mid tempo parts with nice leads, some solo’s and even some clean played parts.

Vocally there’s also a lot to hear, from high rasping thrash vocals to a deep death grunt and more whispering parts. The production sounds pretty all right but I personally had to get used to it for a moment. It sounds very tight, sometimes too tight in my opinion. And last but not least Callenish Circle treats us with two covers. Death’s “Pull the Plug” sounding very nice, and the Golden Earring’s “When the Lady Smiles”, very unnecessary. Callenish Circle certainly has made one of the better Swedish sounding thrash releases but I can’t really say this sounds super innovative or highly original. It just rocks.
