Only after reading the title of this Milan Polak album serious doubts rose whether I was going to like this album. With “Guitar Odyssey” as a title Polak presents himself as a guitar virtuoso wanting to blow his listeners away with all of his skills. This might be of interest to guitar players around the world, but for music lovers in general these albums are almost impossible to get through.
During the first ten seconds of the album one thousand guitar notes blew into my livingroom, making my fears come through. | |
There are only a few times where Polak comes up with a nice, original sound, but the success of this effort is differing. A highlight is the track “Sunrise” with it’s X-files atmosphere and delightful guitars. The use of acoustic guitars proved to be less of a success. Some of these songs are rather boring, for example “Could’ve Been Love”, others just don’t go down well in between the power metal instrumentals. “Guitar Odyssey” is probably a guitar players exclusive release.
