Ofcourse I could tell you all about all the neat guitar tricks, the delightful soloing and the excellent craftsmanship on Finnish guitar player Elias Viljanen latest effort “Leadstar” but it’s more important not to focus too deeply on all different aspects of the album. Viljanen succeeded in creating an instrumental album interesting not only for guitarists but, and this comes rare these days, also for the humble music lover, not capable of playing any instrument and not overly excited because of certain techniques only guitarists seem to appreciate.
Viljanen recorded twelve tracks, all of the highest standards and characterized by moods and emotions. | |
The ‘lack’ of vocals is completely compensated by the intense storytelling capacities of Viljanen and his instrument. There is a wide variation between songs, some defined by metal riffs, others by slight fusion and some jazz harmonies. This album is one to enjoy from the first till the final second, not only because of the compositions but also because of the excellent production with crisp guitars and a dynamic rhythm section. This is a first class release that will please a lot of people. Probably the best Lion Music release of 2005!
