This debut of Spanish progressive metal band The Mystery Hall was intended to be released on Vinny Records over a year ago. Due to circumstances “The Voyager Through The Void”, recorded in the winter of 2003 / spring of 2004, is now being released on Lion Music. Of all the Spanish progmetal bands (allthough there aren’t too many) The Mystery Hall stands out because of the input of the excellent skills of guitarist Tony Baena (some of you might know him from his excellent solo album `Burning Spirit`), the solid and powerful rhythm section and the American sound of vocalist Rafael Morata. | |
One single minus is the production of the album which could have been sharper, resulting in a more fresh and crispy sound but that’s more of a personal liking. I’m sure most of you will be pretty pleased with the deep, rather warm sound of the album.
The Mystery Hall is responsible for one of the best Lion Music releases of 2005 and sure will be appealing to a lot of progressive metal fans. I wouldn’t be surprised if this one also finds it’s way in the AOR scene, because of the slightly high pitched US vocals, the nice melodies and some laid back intersections.
