Another Messiah plays energetic, atmospheric and innovative metal… That’s how this Dutch band describes themselves. They aren’t at all wrong. Another Messiah plays metal like we hear it often these days in bands as After Forever and Nightwish, there is only one very big difference; they don’t use the angel voice, no high female voice but brutal death grunts combined with clean (male) vocals. The music on Dark Dreams, My Child is best described as a mixture of Amorphis (Tales From A Thousand Lake period) and early Orphanage, but I also hear a lot of doom influences from bands like My Dying Bride and Anathema. This gives the band very much a sound of their own. Listening to this album I can conclude that these four guys are perfectionists. I can hardly find a negative aspect on this album.

Producer Joost van den Broek (Ayreon, After Forever) made everything sound just the way it has to sound. No overkill from guitar riffs, no wall of guitars in which there is no room for drums, vocals or bass guitar. The use of an oboe (classical instrument) gives the music a very unique folk/classic touch, especially in a song like “Left To Die”. The lyrics tell a beautiful story of a very depressive person killing the only thing he has ever loved in the end, although that is how it seems to me. The songs are very well balanced due to the use of different vocals (grunts and clean) and the combination of semi acoustic and brutal death/doom metal. With this album I think Another Messiah can look forward to a very bright future.
