Two years ago I received the debut album of this German power metal outfit and although it wasn’t a bad album, it didn’t really stand out from the crowd either. “Heavenseeker”, although sounding terribly cliché and corny, is however definitely a step in the right direction. Galloglass have developed a lot since “Legends From Now And Nevermore” and the songs are a lot stronger in general.

Although at times the band can’t seem to shake the clichés of the power metal scene in general, they have nevertheless succeeded in creating interesting tracks with great melodies and a lot of variation. Sure at times it sounds predictable but the overall impression is nevertheless a very positive one. While for instance “At The Shadowcross” sounds terribly familiar, a song like “After Forever” with it’s great opening melody and powerful chorus definitely keeps you hooked and hungry for more.

I have only one real complaint and it isn’t even really a big one, but nevertheless the vocals of Carsten Frank aren’t always at the same level as the rest of the music. Sure, they aren’t bad at all but they sometimes seem to lack a special edge and power in general.

“Heavenseeker” is an album that should appeal to fans of fast and melodic power metal in the vein of Rhapsody and Blind Guardian. It’s a big step in the right direction for Galloglass, that’s for sure and they sure as hell have impressed me.
