Vile, the brainchild of Colin Davis, has been around for more than ten years now. Davis, also active as a producer for various underground bands, is the only founding member left and generally runs the band in a way like Chuck Schuldiner of Death did it.
For every recording session he recruits some friends and local underground heroes and puts a big fat slab of brutal death metal on tape/harddisk. That this results in quality albums can be called quite an achievement. The predecessor to “The New Age Of Chaos” was “Depopulate” which received good reviews from all over the world. The tracks on that one were more straightforward U.S. brutal death metal while the newest release offers some crossbreed influences from black metal and more melodic touches.

The vocalist for this recording session, Juan Orteaga (Mudslinger) ofcourse has a mighty grunt but he can also do the high pitched grunt like George Fischer (Cannibal Corpse) en Glen Benton(Deicide), giving each track more dynamics and variation.

Variation is the keyword here I think; Vile still lingers around in the brutal death metal scene but with “The New Age Of Chaos” they also break free from the restrictiveness of this genre by writing real songs full of catchy hooks and grooves. Especially the guitars are far more melodic than normal and solo’s are frequently used. Instead of playing riff after riff after riff at neck-breaking pace Vile tend to create more melodic, somewhat black metal related, riffs that are given the time to nestle in the listener’s head.

Harking back to the Glen Benton reference, a record that, in my opinion, resembles “The New Age Of Chaos” in terms of atmosphere and genre is Vital Remains` already classic “Dechristianize”. Fans of that record should really check out Vile as they too master the art of writing and playing catchy stuff that is still brutal to the bone.
