The winter wake is Elvenkings third release. They play a mixture of folk and metal just like bands as Finntroll, Skyclad and perhaps a little Rhapsody. All is not played very bad, but it doesn’t make my heart beat faster either. The mixture of simple power metal songs combined with violins, female (elves) vocals, and some twin solo misses the effect it should have on its listener. Al is played too much in a hurry making me very nervous listening to it.

Live this band will absolutely give a killer show, no doubt about that, but on a studio record I’d like some more resting points like ‘On The Morning Dew’ a very nice acoustic folksong played on this album. One should be really into simple and fast played folk-metal to enjoy this, if not than leave this album for what it is.
