Hungarian progressive metal is something you don’t run into on a monthly basis. Age Of Nemesis prove to be well aware of the international prog-metal scene. Their music is best described as catalogue-metal. On their behalf, the band picked the right sections to create their songs. What I don’t like about this album is the somewhat staccato metal that dominates the whole, most of the times the different instruments could or should sound more consistent with each other.

“Psychogeist” is an album that I can recommend to progressive metal fans with a favour for keyboard driven songs (some nice and original pieces of key’s here) that don’t mind the somewhat shallow vocals. If you’re into pondering drums you’d better let this one pass by.

It’s not that the drumming is weak, but they sound way too flat in the mix that is dominated by the vocals. Strange because the vocals aren’t this bands best selling point as mentioned.

The first six songs are based on a psycho-thriller story, despite the fact that the core of the story is an estranged kid, it’s quite an original one. The band took a real effort in finding the right artwork to go with the story. The booklet is of the highest quality. When the psychogeist story ends, five more tracks follow, the first and the final track (a beautiful acoustic one easing your mind) being instrumental pieces.
