I just turned off my TV were SOAD’s Lowlands gig blasted right into my living room. Yeah sure, they had some technical problems during the gig but nevertheless I do regret I had to miss this show. So highly pissed of I’ve started to write this article…..

No, this isn’t going to be a whining story ‘bout me missing a performance. This is a review about “Toxicity” the long expected second album of System of a Down. Well, I can be really short about that, this album is brilliant! If you want to know more about it, listen to what I’ve got to say…

As you can see, my rate for this album is 10 out of 10. What can be more obvious?! Reason for this extremely high rate is that this album even overcomes my highest expectations. It’s more melodic, angry and intense than their self titled debut album. And that one was for me ‘album of the year’ in 1998! So if they beat that, I think they do deserve that 10.

Fortunately their style didn’t change that much. It’s still a nice balance between The Dead Kennedy’s meeting some Nu-Metal in a very complex way. Together with SOAD’s main trademark, making a statement about the world’s politics. Just listen to a song like “Deer Dance” and their deeply rooted anger will smack you right in your face!

If you watched your MTV/TMF lately you will know “Chop Suey!”, truly impossible to miss. Such blasting, tough, pure Metal music on daytime television, that’s something pretty rare. Seems System of a Down is breaking more than just political boundaries ;-)!

All in all, ‘Toxicity” is a truly fantastic piece of intense musical emotions, combined with political correctness, set in a background of chaotic despair. Sounds like a soundtrack for todays world.
