Holy shit! This is some crazy shit. Bathtub Shitter is a band from Osaka, Japan. This is my first encounter with their music, but I’ve heard from them before. My colleague Roy reviewed their previous album and didn’t really like it. From what I read, their previous album was a compilation album… that’s always a bit tricky.
‘Dance Hall Grind’ is the second full length album by Bathtub Shitter and it really kicks ass! The album starts with a hilarious Nintendo-like midi sounding intro and directly blasts in a full-on grind song. Actually I’m glad the album is pretty varied. Mid-tempo grind is combined with some really fast shit
Lyrically it’s not all about poo, shit and piss. Bathtub Shitter also deals with some sociopolitical issues. | |
No, just kidding. The lyrics on Dance Hall Grind are all based on shit in some way.
Musically, this album is pretty good, as is the production. The most hilarious part of the album (next to the lyrics), are the vocals. The vocalist uses two different grunts. The first one is a deep, low, growling voice… the one you hear all the time in this kind of music. The second one, it makes me laugh this very moment, sounds pretty much like a fucked up Elmo (yeah, the one from Sesame Street) and I’d like to thank Steven from Aardschok for this brilliant description.
Anyway, if you’re into some sick grind with up- and mid-tempo songs, this is your band!
