‘Rock the Nation Live!’ was recorded live in Washington DC during the 2004 tour through North America and Australia. And when ‘Kiss’ does live shows they do it big, shit loads of fire works, TV-screens, smoke effects or whatever you can imagine. The best thing about this DVD is the fact they play a lot of old school kiss songs like “100.000 years”,” Got To Choose” , “Deuce” and of course “Shout It Loud” and “I Was Made For Loving You”, many songs from the early seventies period. Some songs they haven’t played for about twenty years (according to Paul Stanley). Unfortunately no “God of Thunder” and “Sure Know Something” but those are just some personal favourites. The main reason one should watch a ‘Kiss’ DVD is of course the show they give. I’ve never ever seen a band use so many fireworks, smoke and other effects. The band is absolute in a good mood tonight, so is the audience. By the way, no band has an audience as colourful as kiss, many of them painted their face just like their favourite band member, dancing and singing along every note the band plays.

The sound on this DVD is very powerful and clear only sometimes the vocals could have been a just little bit louder, but that will not spoil your fun. The picture is absolute perfect. I always love to see the same many shots from every band member, instead of focussing on the lead singer or the guitar player. Highlight of the show for me is the song “War Machine” with Gene Simmons spilling blood and being lifted 50 feet above the stage. The extra’s are nothing more than the usual stuff, behind the scenes, a photo gallery, and some footage from the Australian theatre show, they did two theatre shows in Australia without all the fireworks and other show elements, just see for yourself, but I like them more with all show elements. The most attractive bonus feature is the multi angle modus, during seven from the twenty songs one can choose out of five different camera angles. ‘Rock The Nation Live’ is a very nice live showing that “Kiss” is still one of the greatest rock ‘n roll bands on this planet.
