When I checked my ‘to review’ staple a few weeks ago, I noticed I forgot some cd’s that were lying there, hungering for a review. Moj Rakety was one of them.
Moj Rakety means ‘My rocket upwards’ according to their bio; I like Moj Rackety better. A band, that exists out of four Russians. Now, it is a long time ago I’ve heard something from Russia on the musical ground, except for Tatu and some remakes of classical works.
Moj Rakety doesn’t sound like neither of those.
Moj Rakety rather taps from Indie rock and bands like Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Cave-In, Sonic Youth and the Pixies. Bands where they play covers from, when playing live. | |
The songs are relatively short. The longest one clocks 4:35 and the shortest just 22 seconds (if you can consider this a song). The music listens like a soundtrack with Sigur Ros and Mogwai on dope.
Maybe that’s the reason a few songs made it to the soundtrack of a movie called Manga.
Moj Rakety is a pretty talented band, but I rather hear some more cohesion between the songs, and more song oriented tracks. It’s like they made 12 songs and put it all on one record.
Too many ideas, which is often deadly for a band.
Oh , by the way: ‘I’m Still’ is the best song, and not only their best song, but a truly great song.
