In 1994 John McBain, former guitar player of Monster Magnet, formed a band called Wellwater Conspiracy. This band was inspired by music of the 60’s. He made 3 records with W.C. but left because his songwriting didn’t fit anymore with the music of the band.

Now in 2006 John releases the album “The In-Flight Feature”, featuring his former bandmates Jon Kleiman (drums) and Tim Cronin (guitar). Gerry Amandes (vocals) completes the band. It was my first acquaintance with John McBain; my first reaction was: “What is this supposed to be?”. This has nothing to do with rock or something like that; it is a journey to space with fuzz guitars, analogue synths and motorik pulsations and elements of the 60’s.

With a lot of courage I put on headphones for a space-trip. “The Underwater Pornographer’s Assistant” (what’s in a name) and “Metronomicon” are very spacey songs, they somehow do remind me of Jean Michele Jarre!, “HubbleBubble” has some infuences of the 60th (Beatles) and “Farewell Iron Eagle” is a rock song which reminds me of Jimmy Hendriks, listen to the riffs and guitar solo. The last song is named “Fog Machine”, the title speaks for itself, it’s one big fog.

“The In-Flight Feature” is an interesting cd, but only to a few people.
